So, I can happily say that Charlotte is now "sleep trained". I sent Ruby to school 5 days last week so I could have a solid uninterrupted week to get Charlotte to go down for naps on her own, in her crib. It worked!! She now goes down in her crib while she's still awake and self-soothes herself to sleep. It was a hard 3 or 4 days of listening to her cry it out but she learned pretty fast and now hardly cries at all. She's also sleeping through the night from about 10:30 to 7ish. She seems to have a pattern of waking up around 3am and 6am but after a while she goes back to sleep on her own. It's so nice to be getting a good night's sleep. Now if we could just keep the 3 year old bed-hog from creeping into our bed in the middle of the night, that would be the icing on the cake!
Charlie's done with the pacifier, she doesn't want it at all anymore but never goes to sleep without sucking on her fingers or thumb. I'm happy that she's not interested in the pacifier anymore - one less thing to have to think about bringing when you leave the house.
Charlotte loves her baths, she is starting to realize that she can make the water slash if she kicks her feet. But most of all she loves looking at the baby taking a bath in the mirror. She is so strong, she's always trying to sit up if she's laying down or in her car seat. I think she'll be sitting up a lot sooner than Rubes did.
I've had a couple really great days with Rubes. We started a "responsibility chart" where she earns stickers for good/helpful behaviour but gets a big X over a sticker when she has bad behaviour. On Sunday, if she has 10 stickers, we'll take her to ride the carousel. Seems to be working really well so far! She has just been so challenging lately that I cherish these good days.
We took Ruby to an event put on by my charitable mom's group this past Sunday - it was called a "Pajamagram Party". You put a pair of infant pj's, a board book and a stuffed animal into a shoe box, decorate the box, and then it gets sent to a transition house for teen moms and their babies. It was so fun to do something that Ruby actually understood and it was sweet to see her decorating her boxes for "the babies that don't have any pjs".
Check out the video of Charlie talking to Daddy. Hope every one's having a great week!
One happy girl. xoxo
