Charlotte - Weeks 40 & 41

We're baaaack! Despite the less than desirable weather and the sickness that plagued the little ones, we had a great trip! We started out in Oromocto with my dear friend, Jen and her incredibly beautiful family. The girls and I stayed with her while Doug worked in Saint John. Ruby was in heaven with 3 little boys and a baby girl to play with! There was never a dull moment and I was constantly in awe of what a wonderful/creative/energetic mom Jen is. I got to catch up with some other friends while I was there, it was so nice to see you, Jan, Jamie, Melissa, Mark, Denise and Dan!

Then we moved on to Halifax for a day, picking up Auntie Em en route, for a visit with Nana and Bubba - such a wonderful visit with memories I'll cherish forever. Ruby was thrilled to find out that they had a Wii and had mastered t
he bowling in no time. She was getting so good that she would actually get mad at herself if she didn't bowl a strike! The visit went by much too quickly as later that night we were on the road again, to Charlottetown to visit Gamma!!!

It was so nice to have the girls doted on by both a Gamma and an Aun
tie - what a treat for the Vogt family! We got to see Gamma's new tea bar at Founder's Hall and also visited her booth at the Farmer's Market where Ruby planted herself for the entire morning. She was the change girl. It only took her 2 hours to make eye contact with the customers. :)

Jinks Up, Jinks Down and Go Fish were a favorite for Rubes with Gammy and Grampy Jim and came in handy for the rainy days. Having 4 generations together at the same time was so special. Ruby loved the fact that Uncle Niall and Aunt Cathy had 2 cats that she was allowed to play with anytime. We enjoyed a nice Father's Day with the best Daddy in the world complete with Fish and Chips and poutine - YUM!

Charlie had a big couple of weeks! She cut her first 2 teeth on
the trip, the bottom middle ones. I think she's working on some more now as she continues to have a constant runny nose. Poor baby. She is clapping like a champ, standing on her own for longer periods of time and, get this...said her first real word!! Doggie!! And I'm not the only one that heard it - right Gamma? She said it several times on PEI when she saw Uncle Doug and Aunt Laurie's puppy. Smart little girl!

Both girls were somewhat sick on the trip with coughs that got increasingly worse. I was worried about the trip back, because we had three, yes, three connections and I didn't want them to suffer from ear pain. Well, that was the first time I've used Benedryl and let's just say I will keep it stocked from now on! Charlie slept for 2 of the 3 flights and Ruby was pretty subdued. :) No ear pain and a smooth day of travel
ended our wonderful trip. I took both girls to the doctor the next day and Charlie has a double ear infection and Ruby has bronchitis. Poor, sweet girls, they were such troopers. We're hoping with the antibiotics and steroids they'll be back to their healthy selves by the weekend.

Eastern Canada, I miss you and your pedestrian-loving drivers and your lobster and your poutine and your ketchup chips, oh and your Coffee Crisp but I certainly don't miss your crappy June weather! :)

"Mom, I know you think this is cute/funny but I'm really not amused."

Charlotte - Week 39

Just a quick update before we head to CANADA for 10 days!! We are so excited!! All Charlie wants to do now is stand up. That's it. She's done with sitting, it's all about the view from standing up now. She concentrates very hard on trying to balance without holding on and can do it for a good 5 seconds at a time now and is so proud of herself when she does. She is developing quite a strong personality and has no problem telling us what she wants. All the memories of Ruby at this age have really come flooding back over the past few days. Charlie's also a great eater, tonight she ate a WHOLE grilled cheese sandwich, carrots and green beans, raisins and half a banana!! Grocery bills are starting to climb!

We fly out on Friday and I know it will be a breeze with Rubes but I'm a little nervous about Charlie, she doesn't really like to sit still but both flights are around nap/bed times so it should be OK. Wish us luck!!

Charlotte - Week 38

That was a fast week! We had a fun-filled Memorial Day long weekend with our neighborhood family. We all packed up and headed about 40 minutes north to Hutchinson Island for a couple of days. It was fun to stay on a hotel right on the beach but man, when you have a baby, it feels like you're packing for 10 days even when you're staying 1 night! The kids had a blast and Ruby LOVED staying in a hotel. Both girls slept well thanks to the sun-filled days of playing on the beach and in the pool.

Charlie is so strong, she now regularly tries to stand without holding on to anything. She's getting the hang of it and getting a little more brave every day. She's started saying "Mama" now but, just as Ruby did around this age, only says it when she's upset or crying for me so it's a pitiful, sorry "Mama", but I'll take it! She's turning into quite a Mama's girl as her favorite spot seems to be perched up in my arms. Most of the time it's just to get out of Ruby's reach. She'll gladly go with other people but if I'm in the room or it's close to nap/bed time it's Mama!

Ruby's imagination is growing every day and the question, dear god, the questions are non-stop. I both love and dread our car drives because that is her "thinking time" and when she comes up with the most questions. I love her questions and hearing her spin on things but after about 5 minutes, I'm exhausted! She remains infatuated with anything in the medical field; doctors, hospitals, blood, needles, broken arms, cuts, death, etc... The other day in the car after being deep in thought for a few minutes she said, "Mommy, you want to hear the song Daddy's going to sing when you die?" Me: Gulp. "Ummm, OK?" She went on to sing this song about Mommy dying but with loves first kiss I'll come back to life. I think the combination of the Disney classics and the Easter story have her imagination going wild. :)

We're so excited for our Canada trip coming up! We leave on the 10th for 10 days!! Happy June everyone!
